POLITICS - SOME SAY WE SHOULDN’T TALK ABOUT IT
Politics is a subject that is often very personal. Some individuals have passionate interests and opinions. Others only take an occasional interest. And some take no interest at all. Let’s face it. Politics can be annoying at times. But, no matter who you are, the choices that are made by our elected representatives effect our lives, our today, and our tomorrows. No matter who you are, Democrat, Republican, Independent or other, we all travel and drive on the same roads; we all pay taxes, we all buy gas and food; we all (or almost all) feel the impact of the economy. There are many other topics that effect us all.
WE FACE AMERICAN ISSUES
Elections are about who is in charge for they will set the agenda. An Agenda has Priorities. And those Priorities are pursued with Policies. Policies have intended results and sometimes policies have unintended consequences. So what do you care about? What do you want to see done? It is a matter of choice.
Examples:
Transportation and Oil: Should we make it a priority to develop more oil supplies at higher and higher prices? Or should we develop the worlds best hybrids and fuels cells to power the next generations of American built vehicles?
Spending Priorities: 40% of the Federal budget goes to the defense department. 4% goes for education. Is that the right mix?
POLITICS IS RELEVANT
All of us should agree on a desire to build a better future for all individuals, for our communities, our state, and for our country. We want a better tomorrow. That is not a matter of party affiliation. What is a matter of party is the choice of what we set as priorities and how we get there. Politics will decide the condition of roads. Politics will decide what you pay and if you can get health care insurance. Politics will decide the value of the dollar and the health of the economy. Politics will decide on war and peace. Politics will decide on what we drive. Politics will decide if we balance a budget or spend into greater debt. Perhaps politics matters. Seriously.”
